People can mask their identity on social media, and pretend to be someone else talking online. A popular television series that busts fake online profiles is Catfish on MTV. (I highly recommend it.)

People are able to develop an aesthetic online with social media outlets such as Instagram. And example of this is posting photographs that blend well together and reflects the user's personality.

Social media pages can be deceiving. People are able to control what is and isn't posted on their account, covering up the "truth."

Since social media is online, users can potentially get hacked. This can result in personal information like phone numbers, private photos, and passwords being leaked to the rest of the internet.

Certain social media outlets reveal a lot of personal information. Snapchat can expose one's current location, Twitter can show followers what tweets have been liked, etc.

Social media can be a great tool for getting one's name out there, and connecting employers & companies. Sites like Linkden allows people to put their resumes on the internet and make great networking connections.

RELATIONSHIP WITH SELF

Social media can be a blessing or a curse, depending on the person's mindset. Social media can allow you to feel joy and provide comedic relief (people love memes). However, social media can warp one's relationship with themselves by becoming too attached to other people's opinions/thoughts.

ONLINE FRIENDSHIPS

It became easier for people to meet friends through online. Similar to romantic relationships, friendships can be formed through social media, especially Instagram and Twitter.

TOXIC RELATIONSHIPS

Social media can also be used as a negative tool for toxic relationships. People can "stalk" their significant other online and use online information against them in fights.

ROMANTIC RELATIONSHIPS

People can use social media to find romantic partners online. This opens up a whole new dating pool, allowing people to interact despite distance.

POPULARITY

When people post good content on their soclal media pages, other people will respond with likes/comments/shares, boosting one's popularity online. This can be satsifying for the person, especially if they worked hard on their content.

COMPANIONSHIP

People turn to social media to keep themselves occupied. When people feel lonely, they can use social media to connect with others and have fun.

RELAXTION

Certain social media content can help users feel relaxed. Content called "ASMR" (autonomous sensory meridian response) is a popular choice for user who want to feel relaxed and go to sleep.

ESCAPISM

Social media users turn to the internet to forget their real-life problems. Sometimes, social media accounts can be another persona for the person; therefore, being on social media can be a way to getaway from reality.
