Thomas Aquinas: His philosophy is a combination of learning by our own means and learning through faith, just like how we are taught from the scriptures that we must "learn by faith" "from the best books" by "[studying] it out in [our] mind and heart". He establishes that our own human understanding and understanding that comes through revelation are both important, that we must utilize all avenues of learning and growth. We, as humans, are intelligent and generally have a desire to learn on our own, with our own facilities. But the mere fact that we are human, and cannot comprehend very much at all, proves that we need a higher power to teach us and give answers to our queries. Our learning must be enriched and guided by someone who knows and understands more and better than us.

Today there was a discussion on recess in the public schools. I think that students of all ages need to have some time to be away from school work, time to be creative and to use their energies on something other than work. "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy." Studies have shown that students do better in schools if they have some sort of break to exercise, to have some fun, or to do something else for a little bit.

Today for the issue in education I brought in the topic of recess, and the question: should recess be allowed in public schools? Studies have shown that children need to be allowed time to go outside and release energy and do their learning outside, or doing something beside sitting in a classroom and trying to not move around and cause interruptions. Other studies have shown that older kids need some sort of time to not be in class and do something that they want to do. I watched a video of a school somewhere in Europe

One of the topics of conversation was about teaching classes to a multilingual group of students. In our country, the majority speak english as a primary language. It's one of the most popular languages in the world too, but more and more people are wanting to defer to those who do not speak it. It's my opinion that people who live in the US should learn english, because that is the culture here. If you were to go to any other country and live there, you would need to learn the language. That is just what is done, and they don't lower their standards. I don't see why we have to do so here. Be that as it may, there are many people who don't know english, and it is becoming more and more necessary to be able to teach in other languages. This philosophy can be tied to what pestalozzi talked about with a student centered teaching environment, as opposed to a teacher centered one. The needs of the students outweigh the needs of the teachers, so the teachers have to be able to adapt to what the needs that are present in the classroom.
