Indefinite articles "a" and "an" are used before singular countable nouns that are not specific. The choice between "a" and "an" depends on the sound that follows the article. "A" is used before words that start with a consonant sound, such as "

We don't use a before uncountable or plural nouns
If the noum starts with a vowel sound (a, e, i, o, u), ''an'' comes before the noum
