History mind map of immigrants -- compare and contrast
Many immigrant groups have historically faced significant challenges in their homelands, prompting them to seek better opportunities abroad. Mexicans and Haitians, for example, were driven by high crime rates and a desire for safer environments.
Both the Mexicans and the Haitians had the same problems with their homeland. They both had crime rate problems which were high and they weren't secured about themselves so they wanted to find a new land with lower crime levels so they can feel safe and protected when living.
Comparing immigrant experiences
Irish and Indian immigrants
(Creator: Ryan)
Experience: The Irish and the Indian
immigrants had a lot of problems regarding
to poverty. Like they didn't have enough money
to pay rent, not getting paid enough from their
jobs, etc.
Difference: Many Irish homes were taken away
from people and they were also evicted, leaving them no where to be. Poverty had taken over them.
In India, the Indian immigrants wanted to leave because their homeland had poor economic condition, lack of opportunities, exhaustion of natural resources and natural calamities, scarcity of cultivated land, inequitable land distribution, and low agricultural productivity.
Hungarian & Haitian immigrants
(Creator: Tristan)
Experience: Hungarian and Haitian
immigrants were seeking out for a
better place of business employment.
There was also a fight of people migrating
to another country, etc.
Difference: Hungarians also wanted to
migrate as in Hungary, the Austro
Hungarian Empire with the territories
were fighting over land.
In Haiti, the crime rate was at a level 4
which was pretty high, as people are
concerned about the way they are
living.
Jewish & Greek immigrants
(Creator: Zoha)
Experiences: Both Jewish and Greek
immigrants wanted a better employment
in business as it would help their well-being
lifestyle. They also migrated here to Canada
for better education, especially for their children.
Difference: The Greeks relied more on ways
of earning more money, like jobs and all that.
They found out that becoming a doctor or surgeon
can give you a lot of money to let you become wealthy and have a better lifestyle.
Italian & Mexican immigrants
(Creator: Maznah)
Experiences: The Italians and Mexicans
wanted to migrate to another country to
have a better quality of life, which Canada
gave them. Both immigrant groups had
poor infrastructure, Italy had lots of it
back in the 1900's and in Mexico, it doesn't
have a lot of poor infrastructure but an
amount that still concerns people.
Difference: In Mexico, the crime rate was
pretty high and there would be people
concerned about this situation happening at
their homeland, that's why people wanted to
go some where else with less crime rate so
they could feel safe and protected when living.
Russian & Pakistani immigrants
(Creator: Mariha)
Experiences: The Russians have left their home
land as they need more opportunities in employment, same with the Pakistani's. Both immigrant groups also wanted to get away from the slavery use that was happening as well.
Both Russians and Pakistani immigrants had arrived to Canada to seek for more, better job employments, as they would become wealthy and a proper place to live, seeking no harm towards them.
"I am happy to help improve it and make it more diverse and welcoming country because I think this is a role for all citizens in a country to do."
- Iman Bukhari
Difference: The Russians wanted to come to Canada as they wanted to escape the pogroms and the restrictions they were forced to be put in as they were treated disrespectfully.
