Nutrition

Macronutrient: the nutrients we are required to consume relatively large amounts of: water carbohydrates, protein, and fats.
Protein: complex molecules made from small chains of smaller molecules called amino acids; protein helps to grow, maintain, and repair body tissue.
Diet: controlled eating habits to attain a specific health goal (e.g. lose weight, gain lean muscle, control salt intake, etc).
Vitamins and Minerals: essential nutrients in food to help the proper functioning of body processes (e.g. Vitamin C helps to fight off infections, calcium helps to keep bones strong, etc.)

Substance Uses & Abuse

The study of nutrition also studies how dietary choices can be used to lower disease risk, what occurs when a person eats too much or too little of a food, and how allergies work.
