The goal is to enhance coaching leadership skills to ensure team members don't feel like burdens. With the required resources and a strong mission statement, the focus is on personal and team improvement.

SMART goals brainstorming: Become a better coaching leader

SMART goals brainstorming: Become a better coaching leader

'The trouble with not having a goal is that you can spend your life running up and down the field and never score.'

Bill Copeland

It is a relevant goal

The goals should be relevant.

This contributes to many of my other goals such as:

Does this goal contribute to your other objectives?

And so many more but I'm not going into too much detail
3) Find my leadership style
2) Manage and organize group projects efficiently
1) My ability to adapt
This goal is currently achievable in the given timeframe and my current abilities

Can this goal be achieved in your current situation?

I think now is a great time to start as I am learning how to be a good leader and I am a leading figure in the Jr.Girls' basketball team

Is this the right time for your goal?

Daily & Every other week

The goals should be timely.

2 months from now I will add to my goal so that I can also learn to ADAPT to new situations. By adding this aspect into my skill set I will be able to be in various problems and still be able to give helpful solutions/feedback.

What can you do two months from now to achieve your goal?

Today I can announce my goal to my peers so they can give me relevant and honest feedback to me. No sugar coating it!

What can you do today for this goal?

Daily I will put myself in situations where I learn about the coaching leadership style, or I apply it. Every week I will collect feedback from my peers whether it be in class or in extracurriculars on what I did good and what can I improve on.

When will you achieve your goal?

Achievable

The goals should be achievable.

Yes, it is worth the effort. If there is a 0.01% chance someone feels less like a burden on a team, then its worth it.

Is this goal worth the effort you will invest?

My mission statement would be "I want to make it so that no one else knows what it feels like to be a burden to the group." In groups where I don't quite understand the subject fully but someone else does a lot, I feel like I burden them. They also expect me to understand the subject as well as them. I needed the one on one communication, that is why I am trying to use the coaching leadership method. To make someone else feel at ease.

What is your motivation to reach your goal?

Yes I have the resources I need to complete my goal. Here are three resources off the top of my head:

Do you have the resources that you need to reach your goal?

3) Online resources
2) My peers
1) My coaches/teachers/people with experience

Measurable

The goals should be measurable.

5 Steps:

How many steps will it take to achieve your goal?

5) Repeat until desired outcome
4) Try to get more involved in coaching opportunities
3) Reflect on the questions previously listed above
2) I will then apply that feedback to an interaction
1) Get feedback from those around me about my current coaching abilities
I will measure my success based off small reflections that use self-criticism and constructive criticism from my peers. At the end of every project or interaction I will reflect on the following things: What was the feedback I gave myself & others gave me? What did I do good? What could I improve on? What's my next steps to continue to grow? Is my goal still benefitting me?

How will you measure success?

I will know I have achieved my goal when I am comfortable and confident in my coaching abilities. I will know I have succeeded when others can tell what my leadership style is and find it helpful/easier to work with

How will you know when you achieve your goal?

One of my leadership strengths is the coaching method. So I want to continue to grow and improve on this method of leading so I can bring out the best in myself and others.

The goals should be specific.

There are 3 main steps:
  1. 1) Write down / brain dump all my to-do list items whether they are trivial or large/important. (Ongoing list)
  2. 2) Roughly rank them (maybe star beside the ones that are more important or urgent). (I can also put this in Covey's 4 quadrants)
  3. 3) Every morning, select top 3 from the ones that have stars beside them.
  4. Wake up early at 6 AM to do my morning routine including this one.
  5. 4) Cross out the ones I complete.

What are the steps you need to take in order to achieve it?

4) Continue until desired goal is met
3) Get feedback from situation
2) Put myself in a situation where I can apply feedback and improve
1) Get feedback from peers
I want to improve on this aspect of my leadership because it is the one I am most comfortable with. Since it's the one I use most often I would like to improve it so that I actually add value to my group.

I intend to increase my efficacy of using my time by being selective of what I do and use my energy.

Why do you want to achieve this goal?

I want to learn and apply how to give critical feedback to others and how to balance criticism and praise.

Improve my prioritization by adopting a new habit of creating top 3 MUST-COMPLETE agenda items/to-do list items for each day. Also, rank them in the priority sequence.

I will do this daily 80% of the times.

I will practice this new habit

What exactly do you want to achieve?
