Tends to be able to afford a greater variety of classes (e.g. AP courses, special world language courses, etc...)
Instruction and learning is achieved asynchronsly (with some synchronous video-based discussions).
Learning occurs on a self-paced or or semi-self-paced setting.
Instruction delivered primarily through the use of a learning management system.

On-Grounds + Online Education

Home-school connections.
Can support the needs of special populations.
Standards-based education
Include both summative and formative assessments.
Learning is scaffolded.

On-Grounds Education

Provides opportunities for social negotiation (on personal level).
May be using outdated content (as a result of using textbooks).
Students are seen daily (or most days fo the week).
Formative assessment is primarily a result of Call-and-response routines.
Learning occurs through a daily and hourly scheduling process.
Although some WWW content may be demonstrated in class, learning is primarily done through books and the penned word.
Real time communciation between learner and teacher (synchornous).
