Final Product #1: Mind Map

Joseph Stalin In the eyes of many people Joseph Stalin was a man who was loved for his courageous acts, industrializing Russia and being a major factor in the defeat of the Nazis. On the other hand just as many people hate him for being a heartless dictator killing good people who disagreed with him and also often leading people to their deaths without hesitation or sympathy. Not to mention that before they defeated the Nazis they were fighting alongside with them. Their were a lot of good things he has done but they were all for the wrong reason for him everything was about power which is what made him a corrupt leader.

Joseph Stalin

Bravery

Being brave is second nature to joseph stalin as a kid he has been through a lot and was able to use his prior knowledge and make decisions no matter what other will think of him. Stalin had a really tough childhood because his family was poor his dad was an alcoholic and his parents would also abuse him. Stalin was able to live through it and still kept facing challenges. When he grew up he stop pursuing his career to join a revolutionary movement. This revolutionary movement he was apart known as the russian revolution helped him become the General Secretary of the Communist Party in 1917 but the journey to that position was a tough one. This movement cost about 10 million lives and stalin lived and fought through it oftentimes making him take desperate measures such as killing people, living underground to hide and jus completely moving out of the country. Before joseph stalin became political heir of russia he had the perfect leadership role according to his experiences, but after seeing how much of a corrupt leader he is he shouldn't have been put in that position. This is because when you have a leader that is corrupt and that will do anything to win and on top of that is brave himself and and scared to take matter into your own hands you start to see him as a lot of other people who weren’t exactly good leaders such as adolf hitler.
I believe in one thing only, the power of human will. - Joseph stalin
There are many corrupt leader out there to compare joseph stalin too but the most obvious and relevant one is no other than adolf hitler. I think it is fair to say that both of these people weren’t exactly the best leaders and all for the same reason. Both were dictators, both of them would do anything to win, both of them caused the loss of many lives and both of them were corrupt leaders.
World war 2 was one of the biggest event to ever occur and joseph stalin was involved right in the middle of it. Even though he may not of always been in the frontlines fighting it still takes a lot of bravery to lead a nation in a war. Wars are one of the most stressful/dangerous events and joseph stalin had to keep a country together through it all. Not to mention tht russia was in a really bad position when the war started that was experiencing famine attacks and with no money (during the 1950s russia's economy was really low) but in the end he persevered through it. Participating in a war alone as a soldier already takes a lot of bravery but being the one who is control of the soldiers takes even more bravery. This is because when a anything bad happens or a country is responsible for a huge act they all look at the person in charge. This is how there are terrorist attacks and assassinations which is something stalin has faced first hand. Being strong, brave and independant is something all leaders should be; but even if you are all of those things just like stalin it doesn’t mean you are meant to lead. Being someone who has all of those attributes and on top of that show how he/she is brave by doing the right things and often time taking backlash for the greater cause is better than being brave by forcing harshe and risky plans just for the sake of victory. Which is why stalin is such a corrupt leader.
Die, but do not retreat. - Joseph stalin
Great Britain provided time; the United States provided money and Soviet Russia provided blood. - Joseph stalin

Heartless

When you look at joseph stalin you see a very corrupt leader and that shows, he often killed innocent people who disagreed with him or wouldn’t abide by his rules, broke many laws and did many illegal acts. A text to text connection that you can relate Joseph stalin to is the book burn my heart and when you read it you also read about a really corrupt leader. Surprisingly in this book there was a character who was really similar to stalin he was referred to as dreadlock. Dreadlock was a character in the book who was apart of the mau mau a revolutionary rebellion movement which is something stalin was also apart of. Also, just like stalin he would kill people who wouldn’t join his movement or help his cause not to mention all the crime he committed such as kidnapping, vandalism, and robbery just like what stalin did. During stalin's great terror when he feared people who would oppose him he killed 93 out of the 139 central committee members 81 out of 103 generals and admirals were killed and a total 750,000 died because he sent them to concentration camps. During the actual mau mau uprising (the real life setting the book takes place in) it is said that this rebellious group won their independence against the british by 200,000 of them and killing 1,200 people who refused to join them. As you can see both of these characters and scenarios are really similar and the more i started putting the 2 together i couldn’t help but think maybe there was some inspiration that went in the book from joseph stalin.
When you read about stalin there is a general thing it seems that he doesn't care about, that is people. During the world war he has multiple choices that caused russia to suffer from high casualties such as being allied with the nazis to later bee betrayed by them. It is no surprise that during world war 2 they had the most casualties and most of the people would see this as a tragedy but even Joseph stalin said it himself that “people have to die what get what you want”. It wasn’t only during the world war stalin miss used precious human life but even before that multiple times. He had a reputation for killing people even before he had political power. He joined a rebellion group and those who disagreed with him or would protest against him would die and oftentimes these were innocent people.
"The death of one man is a tragedy. The death of millions is a statistic". -Joseph stalin
Joseph stalin might of been a really good leader as he always got things done but at the same time with a high cost. An example is when he lead the soviet union during world war 2 and at the end of the war they were short of 20 million people! You would think that that shouldn’t be the case because countries like britain and the America kept their casualties to one million and other countries that were involved in the war since day one like Poland have had five million casualties but still nothing compares to how Joseph Stalin lead the Soviet union to twenty million deaths. Thinking back on it you may think that even though it's horrible that so many people died even though war is war and people are going to die but most of those deaths could of been avoidable! One thing joseph stalin would say was "Not a step backwards" meaning in the times of heavy battle a soldier isn’t aloud to retreat and he gave permission to everyone to kill anyone of their comrades if they see them flee from battle which ended up causing the soviet union to cause more damage to themselves than the enemy. Also, there were many policies that soldier in the soviet union had to follow and not doing so will give you the death penalty such as disobeying an order or showing your own initiative in battle. As you can see Joseph stalin is a really corrupt leader showing how he is willing to do anything to achieve victory but that doesn’t take away from the fact that he is a good leader. Yes he a lot of the people that were with him died because of him but at the end of the day he lead his people to many crucial victories during the war.
