The Great Depression that took place in the late 20s and 30s took a toll on almost everyone back then. With the stock market crashing, it leads to millions of individuals suffering from poverty, selling their own things to make money, and barely being able to live off of paycheck to paycheck. This lead to those who were a good place money-wise to drop to impoverish conditions and continue to stay in poverty with very little work available at the time. This was mainly due to inflation of the dollar leading to common household items to skyrocket in price and make it even more difficult to live.
The economy is always changing in the sense that it never remains the same. It can be unpredictable at times and hits with no warning leading some individuals to suffer from poverty. This can be seen through Inflation or even Income Inequality. But, as the economy changes the Economic Development starts to be put into effect trying to change the economy to a fair state for all, and start to rely on and change the Free Market and the World Bank for economical reliance.

In China, there used be no middle class, only the high class and the working poor. With the existence of no Middle class in place, there is no guideline or margarine line between the two classes causing a great differential in status and position. This continues to the residents of China not being able to come out of the Working Poor and continue to suffer in impoverish conditions. With no laws and rules there is now a middle class which the working poor can climb through.
Poverty leads to major tension between individuals within society and divides the nation because of these inequalities. When the wealth is spread out poorly, where a small portion of the population contains most of the wealth. This is how we form the Top 1%, Middle Class, and the Working Poor. Also, through these social inequalities Colonization begins within society and try to establish control.
