INTRODUCTION TO LINGUISTICS

Linguistics encompasses the scientific study of language, including its structure, meaning, and context. It branches into various fields such as syntax, which examines the order and structure of words in sentences; phonetics, focusing on the physical and physiological properties of speech sounds; and phonology, which studies how sounds function within a particular language.

What is Pragmatics?

words and their uses

when we hear the word "mother", we think of our own mother

The pragmatic meaning of a sentence corresponds to the intention of what you want to achieve with the sentence. It answers to the question, why does the speaker say this?

Phonetics studies the physical and physiological aspects of sounds, the way in which they vibrate in the air, the way I produce them using my articulatory organs.

Phonology

studies sounds as part of language.
