Modern Working Arrangements

Job Sharing
Cons: administrative costs, recruitment troubles, may have bad partners
Pros: better channels of communication, provides time of relaxation to employees, learn about others skills and knowledge
Two people are retained on a part-time/reduced time basis. They complete a job that is normally completed by a single full time worker.
Telecommuting
Cons: more isolation, more prone to distractions
Pros: More freedom in work hours, happier employees
Working arrangement in which the employee works outside the office. Employee uses communication links (email, telephone, etc...)
Flextime
Cons: Loss of sense of family, planning hours can become confusing
Pros: Attracts more qualified employees, boost productivity, support company peak time
Employees choose their own hours, within restrictions
Condensed working week
Cons: Physically and mentally draining, lack of coverage during leave time, more leave time than 9-5 worker
Pros: Employee satisfaction, increased productivity more flexibility to structure work around life
Allows employees to work 35-40 hour week in less than the tradtional number of days (5)
Job Rotation
Cons: costly and time consuming, won't fix all problems
Pros: Increases variety, eliminated boredom, encourages development
Employees rotate between jobs within the same business
Job Enrichment
Con: Lack of training, increases workload and poor performance
Pro: Employees learn new skills, reduce boredom and become more motivated
Giving employees additional responsibilities that would otherwise be reserved for higher ranking staff
Job Simplification
Cons: More boredom, lower job satisfaction, errors are more likely to occur
Pros: easier to train staff, easier to supervise staff, increase in job speed
Job are divided into smaller, simplified tasks

Cons: More boredom and stress, bigger workload increased fatigue
