High Cost of Higher Eduacton

The issue with people wanting to pursue a college degrees becoming increasingly difficult due to the high cost associated with it. It is effecting the ability of the middle to lower class being able to send their children, or the child to pay, to college. This is creating massive unemployment in certain areas as well as high amounts of debt for the upcoming work farce. I think that, depending on where you want to go in life, a college degree is invaluable. But is it now worth going into that much debt? I don't think so. Having a decent salary is great but can still be frustrating when faced with the mountains of loans facing graduates.

Teacher retention rate

The U.S. is having a real teacher retention problem in the public school system. They say they are not well prepared for the challenges of teaching because the university never fully prepared them. People are quitting within the first 5 years of getting into the field. A thought was brought up that it could be a problem solving issue with our current generation. I agree that it is a problem, however I also believe that it is the teachers responsibility to either teach us how to problem solve, OR see whether or not we have those skills.

Realism vs Idealism

I am pragmatic I like to make a plan in my real world to get to my ideal world.
I am a realist but not in a negative or cynical way. I use my views of reality to my advantage to get to my ideal way of life. A lot goes with practicing an instrument. In an ideal world, I would be the best, or good enough to be in a tier 1 orchestra. BUT, the reality is I need to practice a lot to get to that point. I can take advantage of my professors and recources to get as good as I can.

Recess

Should recess be a mandatory part of secondary education? There are several studies and research showing that recess helps students and kids with brain function with their creative side as well as benefit all other parts of their education. I think that recess should be mandatory. Kids at that age have energy and need to release it in the form of play. This will allow for lower stress as well as a healthier life, both physically and mentally. This allows children to be children. To expand their own minds in a natural way rather then a programmed way that is designed to just get students through school with a passing grade.

Kabe

Teachers in Arizona on strike. Received better pay but still on strike for better funding. I think this is a very good thing the teachers are doing. This assures that even thought they get better pay, they can now be assured that they will be getting proper materials and resources for making sure they have the best possible ways of teaching and preparing their students for life.

Jeremy

Why music (the fine arts) is not only NOT a core subject, but is frequently being taken away from school programs. Schools needed more time they thought to put towards math, science, and social studies. They thought the best way to do this was to take time from other classes, and eventually to take it away altogether. I, as a music major, think that was the completely wrong thing to do. There are several articles and studies showing the benefits of music in your every day life. Not just listening but performing and playing as well. If we can reintroduce this to the school system I believe students will improve in their test scores as well as school would be a less stressful environment.
