During the Civil War, several key figures from Texas played significant roles in the Confederate forces and government. John Magruder was a notable commander of Confederate forces in Texas and had previously fought in the Mexican-American War.

Francis Lubbock-

When Lubbock's term ended in 1863, he joined the Confederate Army.
He was the brother of Thomas Saltus Lubbock, for whom Lubbock County, Texas and the City of Lubbock are named.
Lubbock was the ninth Governor of Texas and was in office during the Civil War

John Reagan-

He served in the cabinet of Jefferson Davis as Postmaster General.
When Texas seceded from the Union and joined the Confederate States of America.
Reagan was a part the U.S. House of Representatives

John Bell Hood

Ft. Hood is named after him.
He fought at Gettysburg.
Hood was the leader of the confederacy's hood's Texas Brigade.

Thomas Green

Green was clerk of the Texas Supreme Court until the outbreak of the Civil War. when he became a Confederate cavalry leader.
He took part in the Texan Revolution of 1835–36
Green was an American soldier and lawyer.

John Magruder

He also fought in the Mexican-American War.
Magruder commanded confederate forces in Texas.
