This is a five week course consisting of 2 hour session sets
The aim of this unit is to help learners recognise through assessment where they lack confidence.
To help them set personal goals
To help improve own confidence through participating in a selection of technique which will be introduced through out the course.
As most of the learners in this group do not read or write, one to one help will be given and work will be scribed for ;learners when necessary.
Unfortunately only one learner could attend the last class.
The care workers did come and let me know what had happened to the others.
One had been admitted to St Mary's hospital
One was in Queen Alexander hospital with problems caused by her diabetes.
One was going to see her doctors as she was unwell and the last learner had a virus.
The remaining learner had been for a job interview and was going for a try-out at Toys-R-Us that afternoon.
When reviewing his goals he recognised and was pleased with his progress. He also said he felt so much better after a session of EFT.
I was told by one of the care workers that the disruptive learner would not be attending the class. She did turn up and was a lot calmer. She participated in the activities and told the group she was going for a job interview at a charity furniture shop in the afternoon.
Everyone in the group was talking about their personal progress. One learner who had confidence issues around men was going on a date. It good to see the group acknowledge positive change in themselves.
The "Glad" game is always such a strong tool to use to help learners.

Divide group into pairs and demonstrate scenario
This lesson was extremely difficult with one learner talking of killing herself, killing her partner, crying and being quite destructive.
She eventually wrote an affirmation and then screwed it up. It was hard work trying to keep the group focused and I was worried about the effect it was having on the group.
Later in the week I phoned the care worker and she said she had spoken to the learner and she would perhaps suggest this was not the right course for her.
Lesley made eye contact this week and spoke more to the other members of the group.
I think the gentle aproach through the lesson content was right way to go with this group. They seemed more relaxed at the end of the session. It's good for the learners to use a variety of strategies to help and understand their lack of confidence and how it affects them. The fact they have come to the course means they want to change and improve their lives.

i think this is a difficult group. There are three learners with mental health problems who have care assistants with them and two with learning difficulties. One learner couldn't make eye contact the whole of the lesson, another learner sat away from the group and had to go outside in the break because he was so stressed.
Things got a little better when the learners were working in pairs as this got them speaking to each other. It also helped to get them focused as to why they were there.
Group divided into pairs. Each person asks five questions. Each person must give examples of three positive things about themselves.
