Our hero, Gilgamesh, is constantly in conflict with the gods and facing their challenges so that he may make the world better though his deeds and action leaving himself a legacy in his name. The biggest conflict Gilgamesh has to deal with is facing the fact of his own mortality and dealing with the gods. This conflict is brought to climax with the death of Enkidu.
Gilgamesh's change is dynamic in nature. In the beginning he cares for nobody but himself. Then as he befriends Enkidu and they accomplish so much together he grows to love Enkidu as much as himself. We see this when he morns and cries over the death of Enkidu. The other change we see is when he has to acceot the fact that he is mortal and the only way for him to continue to live after his death is to be a better king to his subjects. This revelation is brought about by his trip to the underworld.
Gilgamesh is a protagonist hero in his story. He has to conflict with his gods as well as his struggle for immortality.
" Bitterly Gilgamesh wept for his friend Enkidu; he wandered over the wilderness as a hunter, he roamed over the plains; in his bitterness he cried"
"O Gilgamesh, king and conqueror of the dreadful blaze; wild bull who plunders the mountain" which refers to his defeat of Humbaba.
"his arrogance has no abounds by day or night...His lust leaves no virgin to her lover"
"When the gods created Gilgamesh they gave him the perfect body...endowed him with beauty...endowed him with courage, the gods made his beauty perfect, surpassing all others."
Gilgamesh may have been created unlike anyone else by the gods but they did not give him the wisdom to rule. It took them to create Enkidu to steer him toward the ruler he ended up being, a very compassionate and kindhearted ruler.
Job's faith brings us to the conflict, will Job’s faith be broken when everything is taken from him. Satan believes that he will lose his faith and God believes his faith shall endure. Throughout the story of Job his friends basically tell him to give up his faith and not depend on God for salvation and relief from his turmoil. This does cause Job to waiver a little but never fall from his faith. This is brought to climax when God speaks to Job directly to question his faith. It was through this conversation that Job proves to God that he will never lose his faith; for this Job was rewarded with twice as much as he had before.
Job was a static character throughout the book. He did not waiver from his faith. This is first shown to us when everything is taken from him, he does not curse God but instead worships God. It is also shown after he grieved and his friends try to shake his faith saying he must have upset God by doing something evil but he never curses God for his hardships but continues to speak the praises of God.
Job is a protagonist hero in his story because he never loses faith like so many of us would when faced with trials like he did. So many others, including his friends, would give in and curse God for such trials. He never blamed God for his affliction or losing everything he had. It was because of this faith he was rewarded by God.
Throughout the whole Book of Job we see how unbreakable Job's will is. No mater what is thrown at him, no matter what he loses, and not matter how much his friends beg him to admit he did something evil to upset God, Job never once loses sight of the fact that God is good and will eventually reward him.
When he was told of the loss of his family and everything he had..."Then Job arose and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped, and said, Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord. In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly."
"And his sons went and feasted in their houses, every one his day; and sent and called for their three sisters to eat and to drink with them. And it was so, when the days of their feasting were gone about, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all: for Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts. Thus Job did continually."
"There was a man in the land of Uz whose name was Job, and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil."
Job is a very humble but very faithful and strong in his beliefs. No matter what happens to him he praises God. He is a very strong person who shows how people should live their lives and remain ever faithful and vigilant.
