Hansberry was the first Black playwright and youngest Americans to win a New York's Critics' Circle award. She was the first black woman to have a play produced on Broadway. She died on pancreatic cancer

Growing Up

She grew up in Chicago and he father was a successful real estate broker, while her mom was a school teacher. Her family donated a lot of money and at 8 years old her family moved into a white neighborhood where her family was attacked and harassed by her neighbors. This led to her desire to write about injustices in the world.
