Irregual Verbs

There's no an specific rule for irregular verbs you have to memorize them.

Regular Verbs

When the verb ends in -e you only have to put -d

hope ----> hoped

when the verb ends in -y you have to change the -y for -i and add -ed.

cry ----> cried

dirty ----> dirtied

you have to add -ed to the base form of the verb.
E.g

Work ----> Worked

Watch ----> Watched
