Love

Most of the characters get in situations that are a result of them being in love.

Olivia sends Cesario a ring because she fell in love with him.

Sir Andrew challenges Cesario because he saw Olivia flirting with him.

Orsino: "O, when mine eyes did see Olivia first, Methought she purg'd the air of pestilence; That instant was I turn'd into a hart." I, i 19-21

Viola: "After him I love, more than I love these eyes, more than my life, More, by all mores, than e'er I shall love wife." IV, i, 129-133

Ring

Olivia sends the ring over to Cesario to show him that she is in love with him.

The ring is used to represent love.

Love causes the characters to act different and get in awkward situations because they're in love.

Disguise & Deception

Effect

Sir Andrew and Cesario have a battle.

Antonio gets arrested, because he was seen when he was trying to stop the battle because he thought Cesario was Sebastian.

Malvolio does exactly what Maria's letter says making Olivia think he is mad.

Malvolio wore yellow stockings and cross-gartering and he had a smile on his face which was very unlike him.

Olivia marries Sebastian because she thinks he is Cesario.

Olivia falls in love with Viola, who was in her man disguise (Cesario)
