CNS: Inhibitory

Smooth muscles (excitatory or inhibitory)

buspirone

Partial agonist at 5HT 1a receptor

Anxiolytic (Generalised anxiety disorder, GAD)
Remember "a for anxiety"

Sumatriptan

Agonist at 5HT 1d in cerebral vessels

Lowers migrain pain by causing vasoconstriction

Side effects: possible asthenia, throat or chest pain

5HT 2(a-c)

Found in CNS (excitatory)

In periphery: Vasodilation (flushing), contraction of G.I muscles (diarrhea), contraction of bronchioles, uterine smooth muscles and platelet aggregation

Olanzapine

5HT 2a antagonist

Antipsychotic

Cyproheptadine

Antagonist for HT2 in carcinoid and G.I tumors

Octreotide is a better drug however

Has H1 blocking effects, so it's used for seasonal allergy

5HT 3

Found in area of posterma, peripheral sensory and enteric nerves

An ion channel (no 2nd messengers)

ondansetron

Antiemetic in chemotherapy, radiation and postoperatively
