ENGLISH IN EUROPE

There are two countries in Europe where English is the first language: Ireland and the United Kingdom. Ireland is divided into two parts: Northern Ireland, which is part of the United Kingdom, and the Republic of Ireland, which is a separate country. In the United Kingdom and Ireland people speak English but in both countries there are different accents and dialects and it's easy to tell where a person is from by how he or she speaks. In parts of Wales, Scotland and Ireland people also speak Welsh, Gaelic or Irish. These are not dialects. They are separate languages of Celtic origin. In these parts of the British Isles road signs are often bilingual.

English is the mother tongue in Canada, The USA, Ireland, the UK, Australia, New Zealand and some parts of South Africa and West Indies which means that more than 350,000,000 people speak English as their first language. It's the official language of International Communication Business, politics, science, aviation and shipping as well as in tourism, sport and on the internet.The English spoken in the Uk, is called 'British English'. The language spoken by native speakers in the other countries is very similar with variation in accent, spelling and some vocabulary.
