Activity 1: Whom Am I?
All About Me: Culture Flag
Celebrating and learning about cultures is an important part of education. In this activity, students will get to create and color a flag that represents each of their own cultures.
In this activity, students will:
✱ Write their country they were born in
✱ Write what culture they are
✱ Describe some cultural foods
✱ Write what their favourite cultural food is
✱ Describe their cultural dress
✱ Write some facts about their culture
✱ Write their favourite thing about their culture
ELL Students: Modified (Step 1)
Step 1 (OLB) In this assignment my ELL student will respond to simple questions in English and L1. The words will be read to the students orally & in their own language.
Activity 2: This is My Culture
My Recipe Book
As an extension of the previous lesson. Each student will research their cultural foods, and presented their work special dishes and meals that are a part of their cultural experiences. Students will design a powerpoint, including pictures or video of how to cook that meal.
In this activity students will:
Students will research what cultural foods that are either cooked at home or foods that are part of their cultural history/identity. They can use the website EPIC, PebbleGo, or WikiKids to do their research.'[[

Activity 3: This is My Story
Fables: Cultural Folk Stores
In the activity, students will have the opportunity to listen to one of Aesop’s Fables called the Ant and The Grasshopper. The students will learn that a fable is a story that teaches a moral and lesson at the end. Students will hear this story read in Punjabi. Students will hear this story read in Punjabi, since there are many students who speak Punjabi, there will be English subtitles.
In this activity students will:
Students will research cultural stories told in their own language. Once they have found their story, they will make a powerpoint outlining what the story is about, where it came from, are there variations, how was the story passed down, who are the characters, what is the moral/lesson at the end of the story. Once the students finish they will share their research.

Step 2 (writing) - ELL students will write simple sentences, using familiar words and a framework provided by the teacher.
ELL students will develop their BICs and CALP.
