Ethical Considerations
Inclusion
Culturally sensitive practice- Acknowledging the Traditional Owners, the Yirrganydji people.
Incorporating Dreamtime stories such as Tiddalik the Frog or The Rainbow Serpent into the play stations available.
Accessibility- Does the venue have wheel chair access, including in the bathroom?
Using the centre as a venue ensures accessibility for wheelchair users as there is a small ramp and wide doors.
LGBTQI Families- Do the planned activities in any way inhibit the participation of LGBTQI families?
Avoid language which assumes heteronormative family structures in favour of more neutral terms.
Financial Accessibility- Will families from a diverse range of socioeconomic backgrounds be able to participate?
Apply for Innovative Solutions Funding to ensure the event is affordable.
Holding the event at the centre ensures no venue hire fee.
Dietary Considerations
Will the provided food promote healthy diet choices?
Will I have guests attending who have religious or ethical dietary requirements? E.g. - Halal, vegetarian.
Provide vegetarian options and pork free options.
Centre Staff Expectations
Staff who will be contributing to the success of the event, either directly or indirectly should be paid and informed of any roster changes in a timely fashion.
Sustainability
Use of natural or recycled materials in play spaces where possible.
Make use of resources already available. Pool the resources of the two kindergarten rooms together and utilise readily available natural materials.
Use of paper plates over plastic for food table.
Legal Considerations
Gain written endorsement from the service provider to proceed with the event.
Gain written endorsement from the service provider to advertise the event on service social media.
Official visitors who may be engaging with the children must sign in and present a current Blue Card.
Speech pathologist to sign into the visitor log and present blue card to be photocopied and recorded.
Venue must have bathrooms available for guests.
Fire Exits must be free of clutter and clearly signed.
In welcome address, highlight the position of the nearest fire exit.
Risk Assessment to be completed to ensure safety of all guests.
Legal requirements for educator to child ratios to be maintained at all times.
Guardians attending the event to be responsible for the care of their child/children.
Educators to use online sign in/out system to check children have been transferred over to their guardian's care.
Extra staff to be rostered on to cover staff who are setting up/implementing the event.
Stocked First Aid Kit to be accessible on premises.
