Central topic

The depletion of the ozone layer has a significant impact on the climate and human health. This thinning is largely caused by the release of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), chemicals found in products like hairspray, pool chlorine, and older refrigerator models.

How does the thinning of the ozone layer affect the climate?

Causes of this problem

In the 1960s, most people used refrigerators that released CFCs. These refrigerators alone did so much damage to the ozone layer that they were banned, and the design of all refrigerators was changed.
Using products that release CFCs, such as hairspray, pool chlorine, and refrigerators cause thinning in the ozone layer. The government has taken preventative measures, banning many products that contribute to this problem.

Facts about the ozone layer

Thinning of the ozone layer let's UBB rays in, which can cause cancer in people.
Ozone molecules are blue, which is why the sky is blue to us.
Molecules called CFCs, which are in chlorine, break down ozone molecules and thin out the ozone layer.
It absorbs the a kind of ultraviolet light called UVB.
The ozone layer absorbs harmful rays from the Sun so that they don't reach Earth.
