Business Etiquette in the United Kingdom
In the United Kingdom, business etiquette emphasizes formality and respect. Proper attire is crucial, with business-formal clothing being the standard to avoid appearing unprofessional.
British people are very formal and quite diplomatic in a business setting and their dress code follows this. If one were to come dressed to a business meeting in anything but business-formal, it looks very unprofessional
Do show up on time
British people are quite punctual as they value their time, thus showing up late is abnormal and is considered rude to do so. Thus, one should arrive early for all business meetings or interactions
Do be polite and kind towards everyone you meet
The British are quite well-mannered so you should reciprocate their politeness by doing gestures such as saying "Thank You" "Sorry" or "Please" as a normal part of conversation to be more trustworthy and upright, two key traits in business
DONTs
Do not be disrespectful and discourteous
Due to well-mannered nature of British people, one should not offend them or antagonize them while in their presence, as it makes them uneasy or uncomfortable or looks bad on you and your business. Examples of actions include being loud, calling others by their first name, obscene actions such as picking one's nose or spitting in public etc.
Do not maintain eye contact the entire time
Although British people won't be looking the other way while communicating, they will not maintain it the entire time so one should match their actions by looking away every once in a while. By staring at them, it will make them uncomfortable and easy which could hamper the conversation or discussion occurring
Do not interfere with people's personal space
British people value their personal space and will even avoid sitting next to strangers on the transport, so try to keep an arms length away from them to prevent yourself from interfering with their personal space
