4. The Great Learning of Women
This is an important book which showed the social expectations of women in Japan. This shows the social structure of Japan and how women were treated. It did not bring about much change because most of these things were already expected of women, and this was like a compilation of all the rules. This source is not as important as the other sources in its category because it did not affect international trade, religion, or relations like most of the other sources.
4. First Meeting
The first meeting between the Aztecs and Spanish played an important role in the formation of their relationship; and the eventual colonization. The interpreter also played a big role because she ensured communication with words instead of wars. This source is less significant than other sources because it only gives the words spoken, and does not show other things which can only be observed like attitudes, troop numbers, and location.
7. Tokugawa Shogunate
This excerpt shows the peace which came during the rule of Tokugawa. It also shows the change in social status for women and those of the ruling class since the classes were greatly restricted. Overall, this did bring change for those in Japan, but did not bring about major widespread change which lasted for many centuries or affected other countries.
4. Allies of the Spanish
The image depicting the allies of the Spanish show the relationship between the Aztecs and the Spanish. It shows that without the alliance to other groups in the area, the Spanish might not have been able to take the city of Tenochtitlan. It also shows the perspective of the Spanish, and how they did not have much respect for the natives. This sources is not as important as the ones above but it is close because it affected the Spanish military and economy. It also had a big impact on the survival of the natives.
7. Against Remarriage of Women
This excerpt shows the reputation of women in Korea, and the social expectations relating to marriage. It also gives an insight into their justice system, as those who disobey would receive severe punishments no matter their social status.
9. Isolation and Korea
This is one of the most insignificant sources. Korea was mostly independent and did not interact much with the outside world. Since it did not interact much with the outside world, it did not have much impact on significant events of the time. It also did not have many local impacts because it had already adopted an independent and reclusive system before becoming more warry of other countries.
4. Expulsion of Missionaries
The expulsions of missionaries was seen as a terrible loss for the missionaries, and was also a great suffering for many people in Japan since they were forced to practice a specific religion. The expulsion showed the hesitation to allow Europeans into their country because of what was happening to other countries at that time. It also affected the international relations with Japan, and led to further isolation from other countries. Overall, this isn't as significant as other sources because the expulsion did not affect other parts of society.
