Kigio Conservancy

Kigio Conservancy, situated in the Great Rift Valley of Gilgil, Kenya, between Lake Nakuru and Lake Naivasha, was established in 1997. Initially a cattle ranch owned by colonial settlers, it was later sold to the Kigio community.

It is an ecotourist resort because it is mainly for tourists to come see the tourist attractions there to come and see and have fun

It was first owned by colonialists but then it came to an end and they sold it and gave it to the Kigio community. The Kigio COnservancy is mainly for everyone and especially tourists

What can tourists do there?

They can take a drive through the park to experience the mammals there. They can enjoy and watch the birds there, they can go for nature walks and also go to fun and entertaining adventures and many more

Why did they decide to become a eco-tourist resort?

During the colonial period, the Kigio conservancy was first owned by colonialists and utilised as a cattle ranch by white settlers; the ranch was primarily used to rear cattle and other livestock enterprises. The ranch was then sold to the Kigio community, which is where the conservancy derives its name, as the colonial era came to an end. When the Kigio community purchased the ranch, they decided to convert it to wildlife habitat because they believed the ranch would be better suited to animals than livestock.
