Plan - summary

For my culminating, I am planning on creating a hybrid piece of futuristic cubist artwork. I've drawn inspiration from Picasso and a digital artist by the name of Nik Ainley.

This piece will be abstract in look, and will hopefully send out some Sci-Fi vibes as well. I plan on creating the bulk of the piece in Sulptris, sculpting the raven head of the piece, and then overlaying it with art in Illustrator and Photoshop.

At first, I was interested in doing something related to fantasy, but later reconsidered. I decided on doing something foreign to my style in the hopes of creating a more interesting and self-satisfying piece.

Picasso - Cubism

Surrealism - Macabre - Gothic

Abstract

Let's move to abstract art instead.

I want to break out of my comfort zone

Sculptris

3-D model the raven and place it behind the vector layers.

Scratch that - For the sake of time, just paint the raven.

Illustrator

Move back and forth between Photoshop and Illustrator

Crows - norse myth

Nik Ainley

Nik Ainley is a digital illustrator based in the UK.

He has been producing personal and commissioned illustrations for a wide array of people for over a decade. Ainley was self taught, as he first found his love for digital art while studying physics at university. He quickly realized that his love for art was outgrowing his studies, and moved full time into illustration and design. He works in both 2D and 3D software to produce his images, creating many unique works of art.

There really is not that much that I could on Ainley's creative process, other than be uses photoshop and Illustrator for his graphic design

I would describe is work as psychedelic, with lots of bright colours, weird shapes, and imaginative images. His three dimensional art is absolutely incredible, creating shapes that almost seem to morph around the piece. A bunch of Ainley's work is hybridized with 2-D and 3-D work, as seen in his piece 'Demons' that I have in my mind map. This is the piece that initially got me interested in his work, and inspired this final piece of mine.
