The various organs of our mouth we use to produce speech sounds.

Respiratory System

Lungs

During speech, lungs take in air rapidly and let it go slowly

Most human sounds are produced by lungs pushing the air outwards

Phonatory system

Larynx

Found at the very top of the trachea

Vocal Folds

Open glottis

The vocal folds apart

Closed glottis

The vocal folds are firmly pressed together

Narrow glottis

The vocal folds are gently together

Articulatory System

Active Articulator

Tongue

Assists in forming sounds of speech

Lips

Serves for creating sounds mainly the bilabial and labio-dental

Passive Articulator

Combination of vocal folds and space in between the folds

Function along with the back of the throat

Should have holes to seperate oral cavity from nose

Located in the roof of the mouth
