Establishing a supportive classroom environment is crucial for fostering student confidence and engagement. Teachers often serve as the primary source of encouragement, helping students feel valued and understood.
When there is a sense of community in the classroom the students feel more comfortable and welcome.
As teachers, we may be the only source of support some of our students may receive. Whether it be academically or extra curricular activities, students need to know that we are there for them.
Trust
Trust is one of my main values in my classroom because every good relationship starts with trust. The students need to trust that I have their best interests in mind. Once the trust is built they will be more receptive to what I am trying to teach them
Belonging
Having a sense of belonging in my classroom is important because school can be a scary place for some students and they may not feel that they fit in but when they come to my class I want them to know that they belong and are welcome.
Compassion
When students see us as actual people with feelings and emotions they begin to trust us and feel welcome in our classrooms.
Growth
Growth is value in my classroom because I teach an age that the students mature a lot and I encourage them to reflect on how much they have changed over the course of the year. I tell them if they can recognize how much they have changed over the year I feel that I have done my job.
Forgiveness
Forgiveness is an important part of a classroom because we all have bad days every now and then, but it should not be held against us whether it is the teacher or the student.
Acceptance
Creating an environment that the students feel accepted in is important because of the wide range of personalities can create an intimidating situation for some students.
Support
Support is another major part of my classroom because if the students don't feel that we support them they may lose confidence in their abilities. We also may be their only source of support they receive.
Kindness
Kindness goes a very long way in our students lives. Sometimes we are the only positive interactions some students may have in their day. When we are nice to each other it may change someones entire day.
