Safety, Security, and Privacy Product at Washburn University
Safety
The university police department is
available on campus 24 hours a day.
In the lobby of the Washburn Police Department,
there is a map indicating all incidents regarding
campus safety. There have been a few reports of
theft and lost items. Also, over the past 2 years,
there have been 3 or 4 incidents of stalking or
harassment on campus.
Washburn secures its residence halls by
using access cards.
Washburn has an anti-harassment policy to
reduce harassment through technology.
Anyone can file a complaint in person, through
mail, or by phone. All necessary information
is accessible on Washburn's website.
Anyone violating this policy could be excluded
from the campus, dismissed from employment
or expelled from the university.
Across the nation, security officers physically
enter buildings across campuses to randomly
check for safety concerns throughout the day.
Washburn Rural High Shchool, no one can enter the school without prior approval in order to maintain safety for the students.

Security
Washburn follows an appropriate use and protection
of Information Technology Resources (ITR) which
follows published ITR procedures.
Washburn network uses a special firewall to
protect users who connect with personal devices.
Campus computers utilize antivirus software.
Washburn Rural High School, data and records are protected by individual username and passwords.
Personal information is saved to a network, not
a device. Multiple users are not able to see what
each other are doing on campus devices, or even
who is on any device on campus.
Washburn faculty must keep student work locked in a
secure room or filing cabinet.
Students are not allowed to see each
other's submissions, unless the teacher
allows for a group discussion or group
assignment.
Privacy
Family Education Rights and Privacy Act
(FERPA) protects student privacy.
Washburn University
offers privacy policies
for students, parents,
and faculty members.
Students are allowed to review anything in their
academic record, including honors and awards.
The university is not allowed to share student
information, such as telephone number, address,
grades, or attendance.
Parents are not allowed to use the student's
username and password to access their account.
The university will only share information with
parents if the student gives written consent.
Faculty members must take reasonable steps
to protect student privacy. They can only access
information about students enrolled in their class.
They are not allowed to post grades to any public
forum. Faculty are instructed to protect any
personally identifiable information and graded
work and avoid using any student's name in a
public post.
Under the FERPA,
schools are not
allowed to share
any information
about the student.
