Treaty of Ghent

The Treaty of Ghent, signed in August 1814 in Ghent, Belgium, officially ended the War of 1812 between Britain and America. The war had lasted for over two years without any significant territorial changes, particularly around the Great Lakes and Lake Champlain, prompting the British to reconsider the benefits of continuing the conflict.

Why British Backed Down?

No major territorial gains after 2 years of fighting (Great Lakes/ Lake Champlain)
