Understandings Nations

Religion

Religion can greatly affect how people understand a nation. A good example is the Jewish nation, which has existed for over 3,000 years. For most of that time, Jewish people did not have an official homeland. However, in 1948, the nation of Israel was established, becoming the recognized homeland for Jewish people.
Religion has had a big impact on my life. Growing up being a Christian, I've been exposed to many Christians and other religions. It has helped me understand diverse perspectives and how beliefs can shape people lives.

Geographic

Geography is the study of Earths physical and human features. Natural barriers like mountains and oceans create borders between nations. For examples, the Tibetans were isolated by natural barriers, leading them to develop their own language, culture and government.
Cameroon is a diverse country with various cultures and religious. Its geography separates these groups, and if my parents were from a different region, I might have a grown up with different beliefs.

Spirtual

A nations spiritual identity is often connected to land. For example, Jews, Christians and Muslims all have spiritualties to Jerusalem. For Jews, Israel was the first country considered their religious homeland, making Jerusalem a significant part of their indenity.
I follow Christianity and grew up in a faith centered household. This built a strong connection to my beliefs and made me feel unique rather than isolated from others.

Ethnics

Religions are diverse, each with its unique beliefs. However, many nations form based on shared ethnic traits, such as race, culture and language. Examples include Korean, Japanese, Somali and Norwegian nations. Which are largely ethics based.
The ethnicity I am part of is Cameroonian. I speak French with my family, which is the language I grew up with. Being multilingual has been an advantage and has shown me how different ethnicities are unique in their own ways

Political

In 1965, during a United Nations General Assembly debate on Chinas actions in Tibet, Irish representative Frank Aiken argued that Tibet had been self governing for thousands of years, making it a nation.
Cameroon is a diverse country with many cultures and religion. Geography separates these groups, and if my parents were from a different region. I might have grown up with different beliefs.

Cultural

hi

Culture is often linked to ethnicity but not always. While some culture may seem similar, they each have unique origins and challenges. For examples, First Nations are from the prairies, while Haida territory is on the west coast, each with distinct histories.
Culture has had a strong impact on my life. From a young age, I was exposed to diverse cultures, which helped me understand different perspectives. I adapted easily and learned to respect varying cultural beliefs and opinions.
