Throughout American history, the theme of unity has been both a binding force and a source of division, especially during times of war. From the Revolutionary War to the Civil War, and even during World War II, unity among soldiers and civilians played a crucial role in achieving success.

The colonist coming together to defeat the British
The country is torn between supporting our troops and hating war. Soldiers build family like bonds. The president is often split because of the differing opinions of the people.
How unity both comes and disappears during wars in the US
Could over generalize and say that all unity looks exactly that same no matter the group of people or the cause.
Could under generalize the fact that because there is some disagreement in all war as a fact that there is not unity amongst the people fighting it.
History- Soldiers in time of conflict
Students will be high school level and an even mix of male and female. They are at the formal operation stage at this point. Teens often stray far from unity and are emotional. They will most likely be familiar with this topic.
Unity affects our way of life in every aspect, it is how we live, communicate and progress
