The Purpose of Assessment

Using standards effectively teaches accountability as well.
standards are universal so that the purpose of assessments are met in all areas of the U.S. nobody gets left behind.
Accountability between student and teacher to reach the standards.
cut the standards so that there are only a few so they get covered correctly and are actually used.
standards based
use quality assessments
measure students achievements on individual bases so there is a direct purpose to the student.
"use criterion referenced standards" (1)
not to play "gotcha"
more formative assessments to keep students on track and catch problems early.
"Grades must be accurate indicator of student's mastery" (20)
Positive outcomes which equal positive significant learning.

Assessment & Accountability

Teachers can misinterpret standards leading to ineffective teaching.
Need more feedback on tests so that students know how they are doing in the moment, not months from the test date.
Marzano
Teachers are not accountable with covering standards alone.

O' Connor

use pencil because grades can change.

Wormeli

1. What actually teaches students self-accountability. 2. Make sure we are measuring the correct information.

The role of final grades is NOT to teach responsibility to students.

Based upon the student. I.E: Chronic when turning in late work or occasional.
