Is used to say what thing, person or idea has the most of a particular quality within a group or of its kind.

Use

Words of two syllables or more, not ending in y. Place the most before the adjective. Example: the most beautiful.

Words of two syllables ending in y change y to i, and add -est to the end of the word. Example: happiest.

Words of one syllable, with more than one vowel or more than one consonant at the end add -est to the end of the word. Example: highest.

Words of one syllable, with one vowel and one consonant at the end, double the consonant and add -est to the end of the word. Example: Biggest.

Words of one syllable ending in E add -st to the end of the word. Example: the widest.

Noun (subject) + verb + the + adjective + noun (object).

Examples

- London is bigger than Santiago. - This section is easier than the rest. - My girlfriend is more beautiful than yours.

Meaning

*Comparative is used when we comparing two things. *The two basics ways to compare are using as...as or than.

Uses

For adjectives with two syllables we use more. Example: Handsome - more handome.

We remove the -y and add -ier to the end of the adjectve. Example: happy - happier.

We add -er to the end of the adjective. Example: small - smaller.

When an adjective ends in the letters E, we just add the R. Example: wide - wider.

When an adjective ends in a consonant + short vowel + consonant, we normally double the last letter. Example: big - bigger.
