Daily Writing Reflection

Writing reflections, particularly through journaling, can significantly enhance students' emotional intelligence and self-awareness. By dedicating time to writing about their daily experiences, students can boost their self-confidence and gain a better understanding of their emotions.

Daily Writing Reflection

Daily Writing Reflection

Daily Writing Reflection- To me this is similar to what we do in class as we have our daily reflections. This will be a space for students to write about their day, answer journal prompts, and make goals.

Examples

Positive
Journaling is so beneficial and is a great use of time. It will help the teacher be in sync with the students
Journaling is a great way for the students to gain confidence and understanding of themselves and their thoughts.

Developmental Attributes

Gender
Female
Male
Age
10-11

Both male and females ages 10-11 can be impacted by journaling. This will help them in all aspects of their lives and will help them with their sense of self.

Correlation Features

Journaling doesn't help students in school
"Writing down your ideas forces you to organize your thoughts. It can help you communicate better both on paper and verbally, as there is a strong connection between writing and speaking.4 Journaling can also improve your ability to write well, particularly by improving your voice and vocabulary." says University of Augustine.
Journaling doesn't help you achieve your goals
The same article from the University of Augustine says, "The physical act of writing down a goal can make it feel more real and can motivate you to achieve it. You can use your journal to not only craft specific goals, but also to monitor your progress as you take steps toward accomplishing those goals." As the students write their goals they will be able to achieve them.
Journaling has no effect on mental health
According to the University of Augustine, "Journaling can help you not only be more successful in class, but also have more confidence to take on life’s challenges. The act of taking pen to paper can help you relax, manage anxiety, cope with depression." As we can see it does have an effect.

Assesments

Post-Assess
Since journaling and daily reflection is something that happens daily the post assessment can be done similarly to the pre-assessment, in survey form. The students will answer questions about how they felt like journaling helped them with their sense of self and how it helped them overall throughout the year.
Pre-Assess
Since journaling and daily reflection is something that is done daily the pre-assessment can be more of a survey. The students can be asked what experience they have had journaling and how they think it has or will help.

Generalization

Under generalization
Journaling doesn't help at all. Journaling can provide clarity as you are able to write your thoughts down and reflect on how you can improve.
Overgeneralization
Journaling will fix all your problems- Journaling can be beneficial but writing down all your problems isn't just going to wash them away. But making goals and working toward it can help.

Broad Area of Study

Emotional Intellegence
Self Regulation-management, self-control, trustworthiness, adaptability and optimism. As students write and journal they will see areas were they can improve and adapt to meet those goals.
Self Awareness- Self confidence and knowing your emotions. When the students have time to write and reflect on their day through specific prompts they can improve their self confidence and understand what they are feeling.

Cross Curricular Ties

History
Journal writing is all about our personal history. As the students write they can see how they improve over the year and how their ideas improve as well.
Science
Science is full of hypothesis and recording data. A journal is a perfect place to record this data.
Language Arts
As students spend time writing their skills will improve. Students will learn to be better spellers, how to have better grammar, and ultimately become better readers.
