Feeling a sense of belonging sounds like
Engagement in my work sounds like
Lucas Sharron (Milesplit NY)
Diversity and Inclusion
I will help others on my team grow by
Letting them contribute their own skills
to the team
Not being harsh on a mistake
It happens and we are all human
I will create open and safe environments by
Advocating for those on my team
Letting others know I will listen to them
Not speaking over others
I will help coworkers feel valued by
Letting them know I am looking up to them
Asking for advice on how to do something better
Letting them know when they did something good
I will promote fairness and respect by
Acknowledging my own biases and privileges
Telling people when they did something good for
me or the team as a whole
Listening to others no matter their "rank" on the team
I will be an advocate by diversity by
Making sure I am keeping a positive attitude towards
my work and my coworkers
Making sure everyone is heard
Acknowledging and everyone brings something to the table
and I can learn new things from everyone
To me being engaged in my work means
Being creative
Caring about what I'm writing about
Focusing
Organization
The missions of organizations I work for or lead
should include
To learn and grow from mistakes if made
To be the best at what they do no matter what it is
Something about a positive outlook on the community
Examples of organizations that may meet my expectations
for engagement and belonging include
Manchester City FC
Milesplit/FloTrack
Nazareth College
The organization that I work for will impact the community by
Providing resources to whatever stats they would like
about a local runner
Allowing them to interact with our website
Making sure that the running community gets
to hear about what is going on
We provide stats and previews for multiple
races and sections
Values for the organization I work for should include
Trust
Trust that whoever is publishing an article
or some sort of media that it is good
Creativeness
Teamwork
Values
Understanding
Hard work
Respect
Listen to others
Skills
Talking about running
Pretty much what I wrote in the writing section of this
but talking about running can be pretty tough, since it may seem like there isn't much to it, when there is a lot to talk about.
Leader
I like to think I can speak up when needed, but not sound
overly critical of others when doing it.
Camera and video work
This is also another thing I had to do a lot with Milesplit
and since Milesplit is such a huge organization, they can get easily critiqued on things like this. I think I take very good photo and videos and everyone at the company told me the same thing
Writing
I had to write a few articles for Milesplit about certain teams
and making whatever you are talking about sound interesting can be tough at times, so I pride myself on making running sound interesting for even non-runners
Interviewing
I had to do interviews with Milesplit and interviewing
people seems a lot easier than it is. You have to form questions pretty quick on the spot and sometimes it can be overwhelming.
Tasks and Projects
Do whatever is asked of me to the best of my ability
Multiple previews of meets
Make the meet sound exciting
A lot of work, seeing who was in what race and who would be good
VVS and McQuaid coverage
Film all of the races
Interview runners after their race wins
Monroe County champs coverage
Took photos of all the races
Wrote an article talking about the meet and what happened
Monroe-Woodbury article
I also had to do research of their times from previous races and previous years
I had to take their answers and make an article out of it
I had to interview their top 2 runners and their coach over zoom
Fairport article
I had to make an article out of their answers
I interviewed their top three runners about their season and their goals
To me sense of belonging at work is
Ready for whatever is next
A feeling of wanting to go to work
Sometimes people do not want to go to work because
of who works there. I feel like you should not feel like this if you feel wanted there
Feeling respected by others
Relationships
Professional organizations in my field that I could
join include
New Generation Track and Field
Flotrack
Milesplit
I will proactively build relationships by
Making an effort to get to know people as friends,
not just coworkers
Asking for advice from others on how to be better
at my job
Getting out of my comfort zone with tasks
I had to do this a few times with the interviews I gave
I would like to collaborate with people who value
Working hard to be the best
Others values
Others opinions
When collaborating with others, I will bring the following
skills, traits or perspectives
Openness
Willingness to learn from others
A positive attitude to working
I would like to work with people who are passionate about
Challenging themselves
Being the best at what they do
The same things I am
