Types of Paragraphs

Cause and effect paragraphs

Can be arranged in either chronological order or reverse chronological order. Alternatively, points can be presented in terms of emphasis, from least important to most important, or vice versa.
A cause-and-effect paragraph or essay can be organized in various ways. For instance, causes and/or effects
Example: There are many theories that wonder if life will really exist on other planets. One of the theories known to date is "Fermi's paradox" which says that if we have one hundred billion stars in our galaxy. Many of them will be similar to our Sun and many of these may be much older than our star. Many scientists according to several years of studies have managed to identify that millions of light years away from our planet there are galaxies that are still undiscovered. Although for the society it could be only a speculation, but it is still something that in the future could be a correct affirmation.
In composition, cause and effect is a method of paragraph or essay development in which a writer analyzes the reasons for—and/or the consequences of—an action, event, or decision.

Argumentative paragraphs

Evidence to support the position can include reasons, personal experience, statistics, confirmed facts and expert research.
An argument paragraph presents a point of view, and provides evidence to support the position taken by the writer.
Example: Trip to the museum The experience that one can find when I discovered the history that I keep in a museum is incredible. The first time I managed to venture into a table was on a high school excursion if I remember correctly, it was one of the unique experiences I managed to take. Since then I have been passionate about history and investigating ancient cultures. After a few years I can be sure that the most important thing that enriches people's knowledge is knowing about the history of our past and how it has evolved. Finally, I could say that I would recommend visiting a museum and by doing so you will find something new that will serve you for your own life.

Persuasive paragraphs

A persuasive paragraph can be a standalone assignment, or you might need to write several persuasive paragraphs as part of an essay.
Persuasive paragraph attempts to get readers to accept a point of view or the writer’s position on a topic
Example: Do you consider social networks to be a bad influence on teenagers? Social networks allow teenagers to communicate and interact with different people quickly and easily. However, their use can also have a negative impact. Most of the risks that can occur is the amount of social networks where they are immersed. Social networking can lead to distraction, decreased sleep, and exposure to bullying. Social media for teens can act as a distraction for the most part. First, excessive use can lead to mental health problems. According to a 2019 study of more than 6500 children ages, 12 to 15 in the U.S. found that those who spent more than three hours a day using social media may be at increased risk for mental health problems. Second social networks threaten the ability to learn. For example Students, in the process of searching for information, do not absorb all the knowledge because doing many things at the same time will reduce the crystallization of their learning. It is evident that improper use can affect mental capacity.

Process paragraphs

A process paragraph has three main parts.
The ending sentence wraps up the process.
The body sentences describe the steps.
The topic sentence states the process.
Explanations must be clear, the process paragraph must be written in chronological order, and it must include a topic sentence that clearly states the paragraph’s purpose.
Example: Ways to avoid depression Depression is something that often exists in most people and affects the way you think, feel and act, so it is advisable to follow these tips to avoid it. First, it is advisable to engage in social activities that will distract you and allow you to be busy, which will help you avoid feelings of loneliness. Second, sleep very well for at least eight hours, making sure to establish bed and wake-up schedules. This will allow you to perform activities with more optimism and strength. Finally, set aside some time each day for yourself. For example, doing meditation or yoga exercises will allow you to relax your body and mind and get away from all the worries. With these three steps, you will be able to achieve considerable results and have a good lifestyle thus raising your optimism and seeing your day-to-day life in a different way.
A process paragraph is a series of steps that explain how something happens.

Descriptive paragraphs

Can also convey something abstract, such as an emotion or a memory.
Paragraphs in this style often have a concrete focus.
A descriptive paragraph is a focused and detail-rich account of a specific topic.

Problem & solution paragraphs

-Use a topic sentence to explore the paragraph’s main idea, or claim (the problem that will be explored). -Provide a description of the problem for the reader. -Provide a description of the solution for the reader. -Include a conclusion sentence to describe whether all solutions are applicable or whether one solution is better than the others.
This method of internal organization splits the paragraph, or paragraph block, into four easily-recognizable parts:
Example: Pollution is a very serious problem that affects the environment and can harm the health of living beings. This is the time to save the life of our planet and avoid its destruction, one of the possible solutions is not to vote the garbage in any place, resorting to reduce, recycle and reuse things. We are still in time to save nature. Many of the countries forget the most important thing that is to conserve life and non-renewable resources. For this reason organizations, campaigns and environmental groups have been created and are constantly fighting to see a future without pollution.
A problem-solution paragraph identifies a problem, or problems, and recommends a plausible solution.

Critical paragraphs

They are a 7- to 10-sentence persuasive and focused analysis, argument, or interpretation about the text.
Critical response paragraphs do not simply summarize the text or evaluate whether or not you like the text.
Example: -What are the challenges that technology could present? The advances in technology have managed to contribute to improve the quality of life of people, so it is still in constant development. In addition, society and life on the planet entail a series of problems and concerns that technology must address by positioning itself as a precise and advanced tool for the world's population. According to data from recent years, the advances and changes that are being presented with respect to sustainability, medicine or mobility of the future require efforts. And that through technology, many of these challenges will be overcome in the near future. This means that to achieve this development and break each challenge it is necessary for people to have an innovative vision, thus achieving a result that helps the progress of people. Moreover, change is not achieved overnight, it requires a lot of perseverance and an aptitude for progress.

Compare & contrast paragraphs

-Compare focuses on similarities. -Contrast focuses on differences.
A compare and/or contrast paragraph is required if you are asked to examine similarities or differences.
Example: American English and British English Nowadays many people wonder what is the difference between American English and British English. First, because of its location, British English is spoken mainly in the United Kingdom, which includes countries such as England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, however, it is also present in countries such as the Netherlands, Denmark, and Sweden. American English, on the other hand, is spoken in the United States (including regions such as Puerto Rico) and, thanks to the great influence that this country brings to the world, its use is widespread throughout America. Second, even within the United Kingdom and the United States, there are different accents and pronunciations. For example, In the United Kingdom, there are London, Scottish and Welsh accents. Third, the vocabulary is very different when it comes to defining the same object. For example, the word "Galleta" in British English is said, "Biscuit" while in American English "Cookie". These and other differences should be taken into account when investigating the roots of English.

Narrative paragraphs

Narrative paragraphs usually communicate some sort of moral or ideal so that readers come away feeling that they have learned a lesson.
Narrative paragraphs usually flow in chronological order, taking the reader from the beginning of the event to the end.
A narrative paragraph tells a story, either real or fictional, by introducing a topic, giving more details, and then ending with a reflection or transition to another paragraph.

Informative paragraphs

Only need to pick a topic you like and do a lot of research on it.
It is similar to a research paper.
Example: Since ancient times it has been said that knowledge is the essence of the human being. According to the Greek philosopher Socrates: "Only the knowledge that comes from within is true knowledge". This quote, along with other ideas from his splendid philosophy, shows how important strengthening our mentality can be. Socrates was recognized as the father of philosophy because he began to lay the foundations for philosophical thought. He never considered himself a teacher, rather he liked to see himself as a stirrer of consciences. In some texts he is presented as a man who shared and discussed with anyone interested.
An informative paragraph is simply a paragraph that provides the reader with information.
