ELEMENTS IN THE INTRODUCTION SECTION OF A REPORT

Objective/Purpose

Indicate why it was written, for whom, and for what purpose. The objective must be clearly and make sure the report easy to read and achieve the goal.

Topic

Indicate the specific topic of the report and considering to indicate something of the scope of the report—what it is not intended to accomplish.

Organisation

Discriminate between relevant and irrelevent information, organize all information related under main ideas

Scope

Define what are going to be talk about in the report (the landscape), what the report will address and a brief summary of the key components of the report

Background

Gives a brief explanation about the topic that are to be covered. ex: key definitions, historical background, theory, the importance of the subject

Problem Statement

A brief piece of writing that usually comes at the beginning of a report or proposal to explain the problem or issue. It will outline the basic facts of the problem, explain why the problem matters, and pinpoint a solution as quickly and directly as possible
