Aims 1. produce grammatically correct written and spoken English 2. Aiming towards the accuracy of a native speaker of similar age and background

Activities:

Purpose:

Fluency

Extensive reading & information gap

Aims 1. to develop student's spontaneous communication skills 2. may make grammatical errors but will speak or write efficiently (without pauses)

Activities: They pay more attention to meaning and context and are less concerned with grammatical errors. E.g: role playing and more communicative activities where English is used as a medium of communication rather than an end in itself.

Purposes: converse freely and talk with native-speakers about many different subjects. Language teachers who concentrate on fluency help their students to express themselves in English.

Meaning and Definition of Grammar

the system of rules governing the conventional arrangement & relationship of words in a sentence

a description of the rules that govern how a language's sentence are form.

a set of rules specifying the correct ordering of words at the sentence level

the way a language manipulates & combines words to form longer units of meaning

a description of the structure of a language & the ways in which units such as words & phrases are combined to produce sentences in the language
