Simple machine

Simple machines are fundamental devices that alter the direction or magnitude of a force. Pulleys, for instance, come in fixed and movable types, and can be combined to form a block and tackle system that changes the direction of applied force.

If the pulley if vertical,you can count the amount of rope.
