Mark Rothko

Mark Rothko, born in 1903 in Daugavpils, Latvia, immigrated to the United States at the age of ten, settling in Portland, Oregon. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1921 before briefly attending Yale University, which he left in 1923 without graduating.

Major accomplishments

Among Rothko's special awards were his election to the National Institute of Arts and Letters in 1968 and the honorary degree of doctor of fine arts from Yale University in 1969.

Rothko then moved to New York City, after leaving Yale University, and studied at Art Students League

Challenges
