Pollution of groundwater was a big problem because this area is an agricultural region so the concern about pesticides getting in to the drinking water was a big issue before we switched to water from Ottawa in 2019.

Where does it come from? From the Ottawa River in the city of Ottawa

The population of Russell Township/Embrun is growing rapidly so there may not be enough water to support the population

Where is it treated? The water is treated in Ottawa then pumped to a resevoir in the Township.

Treated water is then pumped to the water tower in Embrun as well as two other towers in the Township

How is it treated? The water is filtered and treated with ammonia, chlorine and fluoride

Treated water from Ottawa is pumped to a reservoir in Russell/Embrun where it is re-chlorinated and stored.
