Russell Township, including Embrun, is experiencing rapid population growth, raising concerns about the adequacy of the water supply. The region relies on treated water sourced from the Ottawa River, which is processed in Ottawa before being pumped to reservoirs in Russell and Embrun.
Pollution of groundwater was a big problem because this area is an agricultural region so the concern about pesticides getting in to the drinking water was a big issue before we switched to water from Ottawa in 2019.
