Risk reduction. Identifying underlying causes. Eventually drug therapy

Identify patients with disease. Then determine if risk of treatment is worth it based on how bad their condition.

Cardiac Arrhythmias

Lightheadedness, Palpitations, syncope shortness of breath etc.

Medication, cardioversion, pacemakers radiofrequency ablation, etc.

Identify Patients with history of this. Avoid event before it happens.

Ischemic Heart Disease

Chest pain most important sign!

Identify Disease, Reduce risk factors, may take medication to manage. Lifestyle changes.

Before treatment need to consider infection risk, bleeding and ability to tolerate care.

Hypertension

May be Asymptomatic. Main sign is High Blood pressure.

Series of tests to determine cause. If found Cause is treated.

Concerns with acute rise in blood pressure May not treat is BP to high.

Infective Endocarditis

Signs and Symptoms

Fever, Heart Murmur and Positive blood culture chest pains, shortness of breath. Although clinical presentation may vary!

Medical Management

Most strains of viridans streptococci, are sensitive to penecillins For patients unable to tolerate penicillin, vancomycin is most effective.

Dental Management

-Be aware of the source and frequency of bacteremia. - Be aware of the magnitude of the bacteremia.
