The text discusses different mathematical techniques used to simplify and solve multiplication and division problems, focusing on breaking down larger numbers into more manageable parts.

Week 2

Division

Number Bonds Division
This is when you have a large number and you put it in expanded form or friendlier numbers. Then you divide these expanded values by the value you are dividing by. For example 4,816/4. You can have 4,000+800+16/4= 1,000+200+4=1,204
Long Division
This is where you try to take out the easier numbers of the large value until you get rid of all of the large number. You may have remainders and that is when you get to a small number that cannot go into the value you are dividing by.
Area Model
You would draw the same box for a normal area model problem but this time you put the smaller number given on the side and then work up to getting the larger number.

Multiplication

Expanded Form
This is when you have a large number. Instead of writing something like 356,728 you would put, 300,000+50,000+6,000+700+20+8
Ratio Table
You can make a table and gradually multiply the larger values together. Then you can put one of the values in expanded form and are able to add them up.
Area Model
You draw a box and put one of the values on a side and the other value on another side. Then you divide the box into friendlier values to multiply.
Partial Products
When you have two values that are harder to multiply together and you stack them and them.
