What is it?

INSPIRE is the infrastructure for spatial information in Europe. The main type of information that this platform will be used for is for information regarding the environment.

Facilitate public access to spatial information across Europe

Migration

The Commission is developing a common migration and asylum policy to manage the refugee crisis. It will help Europe both to take advantage of the opportunities and to tackle the challenges of increased cross-border mobility.

This involves:

•better integration of non-EU nationals into EU societies

•better organisation of legal migration

guaranteeing free movement of people within the Schengen area

•saving lives at sea and securing the EU’s external borders

curbing irregular migration

•protecting those in need of shelter

Objectives

cooperate more closely with non-EU countries to smooth repatriation of irregular migrants

promote legal migration of persons with skills needed in Europe

safeguard the functioning of the internal border‑free Schengen zone

reduce the incentives for irregular migration, fight smuggling increase the effectiveness of return policies

ensure all EU countries fully implement the Common European Asylum System (CEAS)

Trade

Morals, values, ethics The EU includes rules about the environment, labour rights, and sustainable development in its trade deals. Europe has also opened its markets to trade from the world's poorest countries, and helps developing countries take advantage of world trade.

Trade disputes and defence The European Union isn't naïve about free trade. We preserve our standards with our trade partners and make sure European businesses and workers thrive in the world economy.

Opening foreign markets The EU opens markets by making trade deals with partner countries or regions. We also try to solve trade barriers that prevent European businesses from properly accessing a partner's market.

Global trade EU trade policy makes sure that Europe's trade adapts to a fast-changing world. We also work with the World Trade Organization to keep the global economy open and based on fair rules.
