Misery Builds Character.

This trope is that under large amounts of stress and sadness the Main character changes the type of character he is and becomes a better person. Though in this case it may have had the opposite effect where it made him into a generally worse person overall, In this case rather then being saddened over the death of his wife and dog he rejoiced in the freedom which is overall a negative outlook.

Downer Ending

This trope is effectively the sad ending and its shown especially in premium harmony. At the start it was shown as a sad book where he and his wife are both unhappy in a unstable marriage, but contrary to his wife, he is unappreciated by the dog and his wife where as the dog at least appreciated the wife. This is taken to the extreme at the end where both of them are dead and his first reaction is effectively "how can i start my new life", so it is a sad ending due to both of them being dead but not the worst ending due to him having a "optimistic" reaction.

A New Life

The stereotype that whenever someone loses those close to them they cut all ties and start a new life. This is shown in Premium Harmony, during the ending where he is going through the motions and talking to all the people there and his thought process is, " Man i could get some pity sex out of this woman." and "now i can smoke cigarettes without someone complaining at me all i want".

Death is such an odd thing.

This is a trope that follows people who don't know if they should be happy or sad that someone died. In this case it is the protagonist isn't sure if he should be happy or sad about his wife and dog dying as they were both very important to him but they were also the main cause of misery in his life, as they were a bitter couple and the dog treated him like dirt even though he fed it.

The lost lenore.

This is a trope that follows someone who has lost a S.O We see this trope in an old man who comments on the fact he lost his wife much like the main character, the difference between the two is one of them was in a happy/stable marriage and the other was in a bitter marriage where there was no love to be found.

The Miserable Couple.

In Many Movies and Books there will be that over the top miserable couple who seem to resent the marriage and wish they could just move on but for some reason chose not too. Generally they have children and use that as an excuse. This is shown only at the start of the short story where the husband and wife are bickering about cigarettes and have clearly fallen out of love for eachother, each of them are miserable, but we only see it from the husband POV where he believes he could have a better wife as she is "fat and unattractive"
