The school constantly interacts with its context.

The context influences its functioning and can transform its actions.

Different degrees of institutional openness exist: - Closed School: Isolated from its surroundings, losing prestige and purpose. - Open School: Adapts to changes and community needs.

May include neighboring communities if the school provides services there.
