Integrating ICT into educational practices has become increasingly essential. One method involves revising existing subject notes and creating interactive whiteboard (IWB) activities, covering varied topics such as animal coverings, shapes, and letter identification.

ICT PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT ACTIONS

Revise ESM310 (IWB based subject) notes, and make some IWB based activities for the classroom.

While on practicum I made/used several IWB activities for the classroom, covering topics including feathers/fur/scales/ skin, shapes, numbers and letter identification

Speak to ICT saavy staff members about how to incorporate more ICT into classroom learning.

I spoke to several staff members who provided different ideas of how to incorporate more ICT into classroom learning. LOWER Primary: iPads are to be introduced next term (looking forward to seeing how they are used), using iPods in reading rotations, using classroom computers in both literacy and numeracy rotations and using the IWB not just as a whiteboard, but provide interactive activities for students to participate in. UPPER Primary- allow students to choose whether to use computers or not (my school has 5/6 level computer pods-allowing one to one student computer access), allow exploration of a variety of web 2.0 tools and then allow students to incorporate these in learning when ever they can and encourage students to use computers for more than Microsoft Office.

Do some research on iPad apps that can be used in the classroom with high educative value.

Incorporating more ICT based lessons into my practicum.

During practicum I incorporated a number of ICT based lessons into my teaching. These included: using iPods and computers during reading rotations, using Reading Eggs (junior reading computer application) on the IWB for letter ID, having IWB sorting tasks for learning about animal coverings in integrated studies, and I also took 3 sessions in the computer lab getting the prep students to log on and complete tasks in Tux Paint (a drawing/colouring program).

Vist a 5/6 class and observe what happens in an upper primary ICT lesson.

In upper primary classrooms I found that the students were given a lot more freedom to use a suitable ICT application on the computer, rather than having the whole class working on one program. I loved the sense of independence it must have given the students, and how it encouraged problem solving.

ICTEV PD

The ICTEV PD was unfortunately booked out when I went to book it (more than one month in advance).
As it was not possible to attend the ICTEV PD, I am looking into attending ICT based professional development while at DueCon.
